Have you ever considered that you might not be sleeping in the ideal way?
Even if you have perfect posture during your waking hours, you could be wreaking havoc on your neck and back while you sleep. As any chiropractor will tell you, good posture is essential for a healthy spine and a life without pain. So, what can you do to help ensure a healthy posture?
The mistake most of us make
Most of us go to sleep in the position that feels right for us, but it usually isn’t what’s best for our back and neck. The worst way to sleep is actually on your stomach with your neck turned to one side. If this is your preferred sleeping position and you have pain in your back and neck, this is why!
A better way to sleep
Although sleeping on your side isn’t the best option when it comes to sleeping posture, this will help you alleviate some of that neck and back pain. If you must sleep in this position, do so by keeping your arms along your side rather than snuggled up to your chest. Snuggling both arms up to your chest actually puts a strain on your spine, which will result in pain.
The best option
If you can handle it, the best way to sleep for the sake of your back and neck is flat on your back with both arms at either side. Don’t bend your legs, either. Using a low pillow is also important as it is better for proper neck alignment and may even prevent headaches.
